The newest state in India, Telangana, has reputed institutes of higher education such as ISB Hyderabad, NIFT Hyderabad, IHM Hyderabad, IIT Hyderabad and noted universities like Osmania University, University of Hyderabad, Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University. The first Open University of India, Dr.B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), was set up in Telangana in 1982.
Most of the universities and the institutes in Telangana conduct their own entrance exams and accept national level entrance exams too for admissions to their programmes. Following are the main entrance exams that need to be taken for admission to various colleges and universities in Telangana:
The Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (TS EAMCET 2015) is conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) Hyderabad on behalf of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) for admission to undergraduate programs (B.Tech, B.E, B.Sc) in Telangana universities, private unaided colleges and affiliated professional colleges.
The Engineering Common Entrance Test (TS ECET 2015) is conducted by JNT University, Hyderabadon behalf of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) for Diploma Holders and B.Sc.(Mathematics) degree holders for admission to B.E. or B.Tech. or B.Pharmacy programmes offered by JNTU as well as AICTE/ PCI approved institutions in Telangana.
The Post-Graduate Engineering Common Entrance Test (TS PGECET 2015) evaluates candidates for admission to postgraduate courses in engineering, architecture, technology and pharmacy. PGECET is conducted by the University College of Engineering, Osmania University on behalf of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE). Several colleges in Telangana accept the PGECET score.
The Integrated Common Entrance Test (TS ICET 2015) in Telangana is held for admission into postgraduate management and computer application programs (i.e. Master of Business Administration MBA & Master of Computer Applications MCA programs) offered by all universities and their affiliated colleges in Telangana. The administering authority for Integrated Common Entrance Test (ICET) is Kakatiya University on behalf of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE).
The Law Common Entrance Test (LAWCET) and PG LAW Common Entrance Test (PGLCET) is conducted by the Department of Law, Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati on behalf of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) for admission to the 3 year/ 5 year LL.B / B.L & LL.M. regular & self-financing courses offered by law colleges in Telangana.
The Osmania University conducts the Education Common Entrance Test (TS Ed.CET 2015) on behalf of Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) for admission to Bachelors in Education (B.Ed) courses in colleges in Telangana.
The Physical Education Common Entrance Test (TS PECET) is conducted by the Acharya Nagarjuna University on behalf of the TSCHE for candidates from Telangana who wish to enroll in B.P.Ed (1 year) and U.G.D.P.Ed (2 year) courses offered by government and private colleges in Andhra.
The Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) is a standardized examination of what you have studied in college and your ability to complete rigorous coursework in a business school. Many management schools in India accept applications on the basis of GMAT percentile and shortlist candidates for Group Discussion and Personal Interview for management admission. The Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad (whose PG programme was ranked #20 in the world in the 2012 Financial Times Global MBA Rankings) also accepts GMAT scores for admissions.
